Project Kamarakoto (Summary)
We are currently working on an extensive program which we have always called Project Kamarakoto, a multi faceted program working alongside the Pemón in Canaima National Park, Venezuela and are presently in the process of documenting their culture through various means such as a documentary film, interviews with select elders, attaining other important documents and archives (i.e historical photographs), anthropological books and other texts related to the Pemón. Our projects include but are not limited to, researching, but with the locals we have built a cultural centre based in Kamarata, one of the Pemón communities, which has progressed really well. Our activities also serve an educational purpose. Creating a documentary film, libraries, and the cultural centre (CCK) not only educates the public about the Pemón native culture, endangered flora and fauna, but also enables Indigenous cultures to thrive and map their own destiny.
On an interesting note, Fundación Proyecto Maniapure was introduced to the community of Kamarata through Angel Conservation Corp and thus began the Telemedicine Project in Kamarata in January of 2006.
Using existing and new technologies we are working with the Pemón and partnering with Starlink to facilitate a communications model which serves the cultural centre and surroundings in Kamarata.
A sustainable development plan for ecotourism (responsible tourism) would also benefit the conservation of the Pemón culture – that is always a work in progress and depends upon many factors not least affordable air transport.
We work with a few different organizations, such as Niños de la Selva, Proyecto Maniapure and Biokryptos for the benefits of the community at large.
A natural bi-product too would be the creation of much needed employment for the local Pemón.
Please review our list of programs we are now working with – we have achieved a lot since inception of Angel Conservation.
